loving you is like fucking the dead

Drawing on imagery from the latter half of the 19th century, an era that established the modern museum. loving you is like fucking the dead examined the position of the museum in contemporary culture through the lens of MOCA’s recent calamitous history. This three-part series looked at the museum’s mandate to preserve and interpret culture, as well as the failure of modernism to solve social problems through technology and rationalization. loving you is like fucking the dead denied the idea of museum as mausoleum, a place where cultural artifacts are catalogued and made static, exploring instead the notion of the museum as corpse waiting to be revivified. Blindness and sight, destruction and resurrection are recurring themes in the overall work, which also seeks to invert clichés of the modern museum experience.
