Contrato Matromonial

Marriage:Contract / Contrato Matrimonial was a site-specific performance on the ruins of a Spanish colonial convent destroyed during the 1717 earthquake in La Antigua, Guatemala. Sited on the roof of the chapel where weddings were once held, the performance explored the history of marriage and its evolving relationships to
property, class, and romantic desire. As husband and wife in arranged marriages often met for the first time at their wedding ceremony, Glynn constructed a fragmentary dialog and series of ceremonies between the artist and the ‘groom’ who replied in Spanish.
